...THOUGHTS? for those of you who saw it last night or are seeing it today, i would love to hear your thoughts about this film! (...but mostly thoughts about the characters and story line, because as we all know, visually, it was beautiful) because frankly, i'm not trusting my own thoughts right now and ebert is telling me otherwise...

  3. Take a page out of my book and say what you want and not care about other people's opinion. You know whenever I start questioning saying something that's the opposite of the majority, I just think about how Roger Ebert gave The Usual Suspects 1 1/2 stars and a scathing review. You can't be wrong with opinion.

  5. If you'd read the book you'd know that it starts out with a bad little boy(max) who gets sent to his room for being a "wild thing". And in his room is were he creates this new land were he is named king. Then it's like 10 pages or so of Max's time with the wild things until he gets hungry and want to return home.

Basicly there's really no point to the story. However in the movie Jonze gives reasons for him being bad and creates more of a story board.
When I went to go see in on friday I was surprized on how well it came together! I know that there were other critics saying that its not really a kid movie. But I beg to differ. Where the Wild Things Are has a nice blend of things that adults would like and things that children would like!
The only negative thing I have to say is some parts were actually kinda scary!

But anyways Cass I want to here what you thought!

  6. i agree that there wasn't much to go off of with the book and that eggers and jonze did a pretty damn good job of putting an entire story together out of nothing, but i disagree that this is a children's film... it's more of an adult film (film for adults, not that kind ha!) that reflects on what it was like to be a neglected child... i had a lot of trouble grasping that whole idea, because i walked into the theater thinking i was going to see something completely different--a kid's movie! but again, i dont know why i was expecting much else coming from eggers and jonze (i guess i should have just given up on these types of situations after michael ian black wrote "chicken cheeks" lol--let's see how wes does next!).

...and the monsters were way too depressing and emotional... but i guess we all had our own take on what they were like when we were younger reading the books, its just that their idea was way out of line with mine! i guess it kind of goes back to the whole book coming before the movie; but this one definitely through me off guard.

and don't get me wrong, it was a visually beautiful film! the cinematography was fantastic, and not to mention the costumes, props, and effects! some of the best i have seen in a long time!! ...but i would have liked to see more of the Fun, Scary, and Playful side of the monsters, and not therapist-max trying to help fix their emotional well-being.

  8. when i saw the movie, i was amazed to see how dark it was, originally they had to edit out and redo a few scene because the original movie came out to be too dark and came out to be too scary for children. when i was watching i was stunned, it seemed to me that they really didn't edit much because it was very dark...one of the wild things rips off the arm of another wild thing.
