Each student in the class has been arranged into one of three designations 3 through 1.
The Groups:

4. LaCerra, Fursin, Ralph Martin & Brooke
5. Heitzer, Jess, Bobby, Zach & Ciera
6. Brandon, Connie, Abbie, Lynch & Keith
We will kick things off with a peer editing activity in which groups meet and each member reads her essay aloud to the other members of the group. The point of this will be to share ideas about the essays, and foster discussion on how each has succeeded or failed to do what the assignment evinces.
Before we get back to writing about film, we are going to take a HUGE step back in order to make sure that some simple, but unbelievably important tenets of writing.
Attached are two article, your first assignment is to read both. Annotate them to the best of your ability.
Then, you will choose one to analyze (In class, we will speak to the notion of reading purposes). After "reading" in a more purposeful, academic and self-conscious way, you will write a short "analysis of the argument" central in each. It will SPECIFICALLY follow this paradigm.
FIRST PARAGRAPH: Divisive opening followed by first reference of source and your thesis (which will basically be disagreement or agreement with author's thesis). Please note that to do this successfully, you must be aware of not only the author's central thesis, but her support of it and your reaction to that thesis.
SECOND PARAGRAPH: Critical analysis: What is the author's point? How does she make it? What specific evidence does she provide? Set yourself up to make your point.
THIRD PARAGRAPH: What is your point? How does your point either refute or support the author's? Draw directly from the author to do this well. MAKE SPECIFIC AND CONCRETE REFERENCE TO THE ARTICLE. What points can you make to SPECIFICALLY combat her points? Researh should be employed here as well.
