Two words- OSCARS NOMINATIONS!
With a somewhat shocking turn of events, Clint Eastwood didn't get a single nomination. I will say, this looks like it's the Golden Globes all over again but with The Dark Knight actually having a chance of getting an award other then Heath Ledger's Best Supporting Actor. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button received 13 nominations followed by Slumdog Millionaire with 10 and The Dark Knight and Milk with 8 nominations. All I have to say is the Slumdog Millionaire and The Dark Knight better tag team Button and win all the awards. How does everyone else feel about these nominations?
Well, I'm not happy that "Revolutionary Road" got snubbed...especially for best picture.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't exactly understand how Kate Winslet is nominated for 'Best Lead Actress' for "The Reader", yet won a supporting actress golden globe for that same performance.
Either way, my bet is on her for best actress. I think this is like her 6th nomination, & she really deserves an oscar.
The really puzzling one this year is 'Best supporting actress'. I really have no idea who will get it. My bet is currently on Amy Adams (she definitely deserves it, no doubt), but who knows at this point.
...& I'm still not too happy about "revolutionary road" being so overlooked, but whatever.
the mental image you've put into my mind is that of Batman teaming up with a young Indian boy wearing a white dress shirt and squaring off with brad pitt
ReplyDeletefor this, i can never repay you
but yeah, i'm pretty disappointed. i'm really surprised BB got nominated so much.
i believe that Button deserves to win more the Dark Knight, with all the things i read about slumdog, it will probably take the most awards home. Best Director i think is up for grabs, and i'm not sure about best picture yet either

ReplyDeleteMy predictions...
ReplyDeleteBest Picture: Benjamin Button
Best Actor: Sean Penn
Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger
Best Actress: Kate Winslet
Best Supporting Actress: Maris Tomei
Best Director: Danny Boyle
boooo yahhhh! :)
Well I haven't seen Slumdog but this is how I'm feeling
ReplyDeleteBest Picture- Slumdog Millionaire
Best Actor- Mickey Rourke
Best Actress- Meryl Streep (two more a she's tied with Hepburn)
Best Supporting Actor- Heath Ledger
Best Supporting Actress-Amy Adams (amazing performance)
Best Director- David Fincher (didn't like the story of Button but I sure do love Fincher)
Best Original Screenplay- In Bruges (I can freaking dream)
Best Adapted Screenplay- Slumdog Millionare (I'd prefer Doubt)
Best Cinematography- The Dark Knight
Best Editing- The Dark Knight or Ben Button (Slumdog if I ever see it... maybe)
Best Art Direction- The Dark Knight or Ben Button
Best Costumes- I'll get to the at the bottom
Best Makeup- The Dark Knight
Best Original Score- Ben Button... not sure I like this category anyway
Best Original Song- Uhhh only three this year? I guess Slumdog
Best Achievement in Sound- The Dark Knight (NO WAY BUTTON SHOULD BE CONSIDERED ><)
Best Sound Editing- The Dark Knight
Best Visual Effects- Iron Man (anyone would have said this since it came out)
Best Animated- Kung Fu Panda
Then the others I don't have as much in sight. I want to see Slumdog Millionaire but I don't think I'll have a chance. If I did I would have more insight on this. Right now technicals are between The Dark Knight and Ben Button, but Slumdog would probably allow me to break it apart more. As for bust costume... I'm leaning towards Button only because the idea of the costumes was to take Levi's styled clothing throughout history. Thought that was interesting. If anyone read my other topic, you'd know I hate the story so naturally I wouldn't give it best screenplay or picture. Well I'm still a fan boy of The Dark Knight and I defiantly feel it blows Button out of the water.
Finally saw Slumdog Millionaire... Ben Button hasn't a chance.
ReplyDeletehigh-five, paul
ReplyDeleteEveryone has all this acclaim for Rourke's performance in The Wrestler. I'm sorry but... the movie looked incredibly stupid.
ReplyDeleteLMAO Drew... I had the exact opposite reaction when I saw the trailer. BTW... off topic but with the new trailer for watchmen, I do want to see it now. By the way, those who want to see some of the Oscar nominations before the Oscars, Regal has Ben Button, Slumdog Millionaire and Revolutionary Road, the Tilton 9 has Ben Button, Frost/Nixon and The Wrestler, and The Frank Theater has Revolutionary Road, The Reader, Doubt, and Slumdog Millionaire.
ReplyDeletejust watched slumdog last night with Sam,
ReplyDeleteBest Picture-Slumdog Millionaire
Best Director- Boyle or Fincher(i just don't know anymore)

ReplyDeletei'm with paul, Benjamin Button doesn't stand a chance i think. Slumdog Millionaire is a must see, all those in this blog GO SEE IT!!!
ReplyDeletealthough i thought Benjamin Button was amazing, slumdog was just mind blowing. Slumdog excelled in technical and musical aspects, as well as a thought provoking and well constructed plot.
lol, Zander...I love it because your comment proves something I have been dealing with since starting his institute...when it comes to art, in so many ways, it seems the more you know, the less you know. Ya know?
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing Slumdog with Zander this weekend, I honestly think it's a toss up between it and Button. They both were amazing.
