...for Madonna's directorial debut this doesn't look half bad. I know exactly what you're thinking: 'Madonna? Really Mama Cass?'. And believe you me, I wasn't about to give it the time of day either, but after watching the trailer I totally changed my mind. Plus, who doesn't love Gogol? Especially in film (Everything is Illuminated, Wristcutters: A Love Story).
you listen to gogol??! thats awesome! you should check out 'everything is illuminated', if you haven't already. the character of 'alex' is gogol's lead singer.. and i love when he says 'jon-than'.
they're playing at the electric factory in phila on new years eve, btw.. should be a good time.
okay well i think that Sean Penn will win nothing now because Weisback jinxed it. Nice going! Just kidding! But you do tend to be wrong about movies, especially with The Game. But I DO think that "Rachel Getting Married" will definitely get something.
Ok so from what I've heard this is what I'm thinking.
Dark Knight will get a nomination to boost the ratings this year. This will probably be the rule of thumb with all categories, Dark Knight will get nominations most likely not win. I have high hopes for Nolan and Ledger getting best director and supporting actor. Possibly a best cinematography award.
This of course isn't Batman's year alone, Clint Eastwood has nice chance too. Gran Torino should give him a nice amount of nominations. Another person with nominations heading his way is of course, Sean Penn but this year I feel isn't his year. It's a largely mixed year most likely compared to last years Coen brother domination, with P.T. Anderson picking up the leftovers.
As for what I want, is a nomination for Martin McDonagh's In Bruges for best original screen play. At the half way point this year it was on alot of critics top 10 lists and I'd say it's still in my top five best this year.
Meryl Streep better win best actress only because she's the only actress I've ever cared watching on screen and will hopefully match Hepburn's record one day.
Here's a link to a speculation article by Roger Ebert. It's quite interesting. http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20081117/OSCARS/811179997

It would be nice if more people saw "In Bruges".
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely in my tops of 2008.
I would like to see it get some more recognition.
